Dennis (Chip)'s Story
Life
Dennis (Chip) London. After graduation I joined the US Marines. Spent 8 years with a shaved head taking orders from others (talk about a nightmare). But at least I got to play with weapons and blow things up. I met my wife (Shari) while stationed in California for the second time. We were married in 1991. That same year I was offered the opportunity to learn about computers and computer networking. Little did I know that was going to be my real world profession.
School
Looking back, I wish I would have put more effort into my school work. Maybe not the homework aspect ;)
College
I skipped college and went into the military. I had a couple of opportunities to attend while in the Marines but opted to not try and better myself (young and foolish). I really wish I would have used that time in Japan better than going out drinking all the time. I could have learned so much about the culture, language, and history. Oh well, hindsight is 20/20.
Workplace
I recently (Jan 2007)...Expand for more
switched companies. I now work for DynTek as a Security Evangelist. I still support the sales and marketing folks but now I am not tied to one product line. Granted I still owe a lot to McAfee for having a technology I could excel with but that is not where I hang my hat. Not to mention I'm not traveling as much these days. I was averaging about 250K miles each year for the past six years and believe me...it was getting old.
So now I have an office, I actually interact with the people in the office and I'm getting more miles in my car than on an airplane.
Military
Boot camp in Parris Island. Then stationed in California, Japan, North Carolina, and then back to California.
Started military career as a Field Wireman. Cross trained with radio and MUX. When I arrived at CA the second time I was placed the station communications center. When the computer guys needed a hand I would help out and they offered to teach me more advanced things. That was the start of my computer career.
